Black Gold Online Trailer Revealed

June 14, 2012

There is these days no shortage of upcoming MMOs in the making, and another is Snail Games‘ steampunk-inspired Black Gold Online. Little is know so far about the game, let alone any information on a release date or approximate month or even year, but the first trailer has just been released and finally gives us a little glimpse into the universe of the game:

In the game, two factions fight against each other over the precious resource black gold (no, it’s not oil, but the pun is not wasted) which is capable of granting the possessor great mystical powers. It is the old but ever current conflict of nature versus technology and industry. You can choose to play either on nature’s side as the bear-like brutes, the feline-like kosh or the hippie-humans, or you can choose technology, industry and steampunk and play as dwarves, vampires or steampunk-humans. A seemingly odd combination with the dwarves and vampires there. I wonder how that works out.

Judging by the trailer, I am overall excited about Black Gold Online. Finally an MMO with a proper war – and what side to choose? Who doesn’t love both nature and steampunk? Looking at the graphics so far, there is room for improvement, but being the very first trailer of a game without even a guessed at release date, the final game will most likely look much better.

The story is old, but that does not mean that it will be boring if well executed within the game, and I, for one, am looking forward to hearing more about this MMO.

This game looks very interesting. Magic AND Steampunk?! You’ve got me sold on this! I assume it’s only going to be distributed for PC then? or do you know if there are plans for console ports? You’ve actually grasped me with something I totally didn’t expect. Thanks for this! I love this concept! Can’t wait to try it out, do you know if there’s a demo out?

    Hi there!

Thanks for the comment! I’m well excited about this game as well. Steampunk and magic… what’s not to love? Unfortunately almost no information is out yet regarding the game, except that it may be released sometime during 2013, but Snail Games sure are quiet about it. My best advice is google. I’ve found some screenshots and a bit more information there regarding the name of the factions’ homes, and that the game might be free-to-play for instance. But not much more is being revealed yet. I’ll be sure to make more posts regarding this game, as information comes out!
